What is RO? Reverse Osmosis water is water that has been purified by being forced through a semi-permeable membrane, which blocks contaminants, minerals, and particles, leaving behind clean, filtered water.
Benefits: removes up to 99% of contaminants (lead, chlorine, arsenic, PFAS, etc.), significantly improving water taste, odor, and clarity, making it better for drinking, cooking, and clear ice cubes, while also saving money on bottled water and reducing plastic waste
What is alkaline water:
Water with a higher pH level (typically 8 or 9) than regular tap water (pH 7), meaning it’s less acidic and contains alkaline minerals like calcium, potassium, and magnesium.
Benefits:
- Acid Reflux Relief: Alkaline water with a pH of 8.8 may help deactivate pepsin, an enzyme responsible for acid reflux symptoms, by neutralizing stomach acid. Some studies suggest that drinking alkaline water along with a plant-based diet can be as effective as some medications for controlling symptoms.
- Enhanced Hydration: One study on athletes found that consuming alkaline water after a strenuous workout resulted in a significant decrease in blood viscosity (blood thickness) compared to regular water, potentially improving blood flow and oxygen delivery. This may lead to better hydration status and more efficient recovery.
- Bone Health Support: Preliminary research, particularly in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis, indicates that alkaline water might help improve bone density markers when combined with conventional treatment. It’s theorized that the minerals in the water, such as calcium and magnesium, contribute to this.
